JK Flesh - In Your Pit EP

Today, I'll be writing about the In Your Pit EP by JK Flesh (Justin K. Broadrick, Godflesh, formerly of Napalm Death among others) and I'll briefly mention a few other pieces of fresh wax that have been put out semi-recently by the Berlin record label Pressure.

The In Your Pit EP starts out with the mowing, grinding, growling down-tempo drone of "In Your Pit" and the remix by The Bug, otherwise known as Kevin Martin. Really powerful stuff, most enjoyable at extremely high decibels, the remix infuses more percussive elements to the pumping bass of the original. It's reminiscent, to me, of some of the "industrial" noise of the eighties but sure to appeal to young Bass-heads hungering for the dark, deep frequencies contained here.

The B-Side features "Paranoid Archetype" and "Rub Me Out," two more driving, thumping, pulsating tracks of gritty, grimy and dirty, distorted noise. This record is an excellent example of Pressure's efforts to expand the realms of dub. (also available from Bleep.)

Pressure

Another superb slab of vinyl that came out last year on Pressure that I would like to mention is a project called Flame 1 which is a collaboration between The Bug and Burial. The A-side, "Fog," bounces with layers of atmospheric effects that create a density that can be felt yet still maintains it's sparseness. "Shrine," the AA-side tune sounds eerie and creeping, with a compelling rhythm, this is the type of atypical dub that draws me towards artists like Burial and The Bug.
Vinyl is still available at Bleep.

Also on Pressure is Miss Red's K.O.LP, Floor Weapons Vol. 1 by G36 (which was featured on the premiere broadcast of CULTCHA Clash Outer National - Global-Community-Radio) and "Vex" by dub-poet, Nazamba which was produced by G36.

These titles are available at Bandcamp as well as Bleep.com and links have been included where highlighted.
