Mixed & Written by Selecta J-Cut

Industrial Funk / Dub Abstractions X -Forward Into The 22nd Century

This is the tenth edition in the  reboot of Vinyl Encounters of the...Rewind! (see original video episodes Here). This time I'll be breaking down another of my all-vinyl mixes, Industrial Funk / Dub Abstractions X - Forward Into The 22nd Century, which was put together in 2018.

This mix is composed of tunes that have been released since the year 2000, whereas the previous mixes had been made up of more vintage material.

Again, I will make this disclaimer, the title of this series is my own description, some artists may take the label "Industrial" as a pejorative, or a purist would say that Industrial is exclusively Throbbing Gristle and music that was released on their Industrial Records. I'm not attempting to classify or categorize any of the artists included here, I'm using the term as a personal interpretation as more of a reaction to the music industry itself than any actual distinct "sound."

Many of the artists included in this series are active now, links have been included (highlighted) where possible, as it is our goal at CULTCHA Clash Outer National to educate and entertain.

Xordox - Neospection
This one starts with "Diamonds" from the 2017 Editions Mego LP, Neospection, by Xordox (J.G. Thirlwell). It's not so much dub, industrial or funk per se, but a great intro. The arpeggiated keys are reminiscent of Kraftwerk's Radioactivity, the album is a synth driven project from an outstanding artist with an exceptional catalogue and an evolution of sound that has led to his production of soundtracks to animated series The Venture Brothers and Archer.
