Lee "Scratch" Perry - Makumba Rock 10" Disco Plate |
Makumba Rock 10" Disco Plate is the first single from legend of Reggae, Lee "Scratch" Perry's latest album, Rainford (On-U Sound Records), which I reviewed previously on CULTCHA Clash Outer National.
On-U Sound has been known for releasing 10" Disco Plates as a series beginning with 1982's Virgin / Danger from Prince Far I with Singers & Players and continues the series today, and the layout and design of the record covers is the same original design by Kishi Yamamoto.
This most recent has an extended, stripped-down and tripped-out version of "Makumba Rock," definitely the house-rocker of the album.
The b-side is a non-album cut called "Heaven and Hell," from the Rainford sessions. It's another fine example of Adrian Sherwood's quality production as well another reason why Lee "Scratch" Perry is so deserving of immense critical acclaim, and more fans are discovering the magic of The Upsetter by the day.
It looks like the limited edition (1,000 copies) vinyl is sold out from Bandcamp and Bleep, but it is available digitally, or you can probably find it at Discogs.
